Graduation Plan for Comanche High School

May 22, 2020 8:00 pm at Indian Stadium

Crowd control

  • The main gate by the ticket booth will open at 7:00pm.

Each family (not student) will be given 5 tickets in the form of wristbands.

Each of the 5 people attending (per family) will be sent home a paper screening guide to check for symptoms and return to the school prior to receiving wristbands.

These forms must be picked up by the graduate on Friday, May 8 in the High School office from 8:00-3:00.  These forms must be returned by the graduate to the High School office no later than Tuesday, May 12 by 3:00pm.

Upon arrival, all 5 members of the group (which must arrive together) will be escorted by a school staff member to their assigned seating, which was drawn for by school administration.

Upon conclusion of the ceremony, please remain seated.  A staff member will release you by row and section.  Attendees must go directly to their vehicles.  There will be no congregating or picture taking after the ceremony on school grounds.  Family photographs need to be taken prior to the arrival of Graduation.

Officer McDonald will be present and available to disperse the crowd as needed.

**An important note about wristbands (tickets).  Due to social distancing guidelines, leftover tickets are not transferable to another family.  For example, if the Askew family only needs 3 tickets they are not allowed to give the remaining two to the Lewis family.  This would violate the social distancing by family guideline.  Thank you for your understanding regarding this matter.**

Graduates

  • The graduates will arrive at 7:00pm in cap and gown.  They will be seated six feet apart in the gymnasium.  They will need to park in the student parking lot and enter through the door by the girl’s locker room, where they will be screened by a school staff member.

As the ceremony begins, they will walk in a line (appropriately spaced) to the assigned seating for seniors.

As the student’s name is called and they cross the stage, a graduation photograph will be taken and the student will return to their seat.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the graduates will toss their caps from their seats.

Students will exit by row and make their way to the check-out tables (organized by alphabet).

At each table will be two staff members.  One will remove the stoles/cords and the other will place the actual diploma on the table to be picked up by the student.

After the student has checked out, they will report straight to their vehicle.

There will be no congregating or picture taking at the conclusion of the ceremony  on school grounds.

Officer McDonald will be present and available to disperse the crowd as needed.

End of Year Procedures

The Comanche HS and JH will begin taking up school issued equipment the week of May 11.  Students are asked to drive by the back of the high school during the scheduled times.  Students should have all equipment with them when they come including the laptop, laptop bag, charger, calculators, textbooks, library books, and student id badge.

Please drive to the back of the high school using the entrance off HWY 16 and proceed down the street, stopping to drop off textbooks, calculators, and badges.  Then proceed to the Ag Shop for the computer equipment.

You will be asked to exit the vehicle with your equipment and go to the sign-in table.  You must be able to tell us of any problems you were having with your computer equipment.  After sanitizing, we will inspect the equipment and assess the condition.  We may ask you questions about what we see.  We will complete this process quickly and have you on your way.

For your convenience, if you have students in both JH and HS, you may bring them all at the same time.  We will be taking equipment at the following times:

During Curbside Meals – 11:00-1:00 Monday through Thursday (AT HIGH SCHOOL)

From 4:00 – 6:00 Monday through Wednesday.

COVID-19 UPDATE

As most of you have heard, President Trump along with the Center for Disease Control have issued a continuance of social distancing through April 30, 2020.  Also, yesterday, Governor Greg Abbott issued an Executive order closing all school buildings through May 4, 2020.

With this information and discussion with local and State health officials Comanche ISD will continue virtual instruction and keep our buildings closed until we can ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.   If we are able to open our school buildings for the final month of the year, we will give advance notice to all stakeholders.

 Instruction
Students will continue to utilize Google Classroom as they have been doing. Packets will be available for pickup on Mondays from 11am - 1pm for those who have a need for them. Due to parent feedback that we have received in grades 6-12, we feel that it is necessary to utilize Gradebook, starting April 6, 2020, as a communication tool to help parents and students check for completion and submission at our secondary levels. Elementary will continue to monitor and give feedback through Google classroom. Due to the prolonging of the virtual learning model our administrators are working diligently on grading policies that provide equity for every student.  We will be making those public Friday, April 3, 2020. Please continue to check for completion as we check for understanding. (See grading policies in right column.)

 Food Service
We will continue to serve a quality breakfast with a "hot" lunch each day to all children age 18 and below at no charge.  This service will continue to be curbside at the Comanche Elementary.  The only change will be the time.  Curbside breakfast and lunch will be from 11:00 am-1:00 pm Monday through Friday.

 End of Year
We hope that everyone will join together and do your part to practice social distancing, continue to wash hands, and stay home when you are sick so that we can get back into our "normal" routines.  We love each and every one of our students and hope to have them back in the buildings for the final month of school.   We understand that there is a possibility that we will not be able to finish school in the brick and mortar school buildings.  We continue to make plans in case we have to continue virtual education through the end of the year.  We will get through this time as long as we work together.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your child's teacher, campus administrator, or myself.

God Bless each one of you,

Gary Speegle Superintendent, Comanche ISD
