STEP 1: If a student fails to attend school without excuse on 2 or more days or parts of days within a four-week period, the school will:
~ call the parent or make a home visit to discuss the absences and complete the Student Information Document.
STEP 2: If a student fails to attend school without excuse on 3 or more days or parts of days within a four-week period, the school will:
~ Inform the student’s parent/guardian via written notice of the student’s attendance issues and the consequences of continued absences.
~ Hold a conference with the parent or guardian to make an Attendance Plan.
~ Notify the student’s ARD or 504 Committee if the student has these services.
STEP 3: If a student fails to attend school without excuse on 5 or more days or parts of days within a four-week period, the school will:
~Schedule a meeting between school officials and the parent or guardian to require the parent or guardian to complete the Truancy Prevention Video and Quiz (see below).
~Refer the student to the school counselor to address truancy prevention.
STEP 4: If the truancy prevention measures do not work, and the student fails to attend school on ten or more days or parts of days within a six-month period, the school may refer the case against the parent to truancy court and case against the student (if ages 12-18) to truancy court.
